Energy Swing Windows Hosts Penn-Trafford High School Life Skills Class For Lesson In Manufacturing

A company’s success is based on many factors. Some of those factors include the product it produces, the way they treat their clients, and their reputation both as a business but also what they do for the community. Murrysville based manufacturer, Energy Swing Windows takes pride in exceeding in all of those areas, and just recently did something special for a group of high school students. They hosted the Life Skills class from Penn Trafford High School on a tour of their facility so the students could see firsthand the manufacturing of a product from start to finish. Each month is a different job field, and for January the focus career was manufacturing.

A company’s success is based on many factors. Some of those factors include the product it produces, the way they treat their clients, and their reputation both as a business but also what they do for the community. As a Murrysville based manufacturer, Energy Swing Windows takes pride in exceeding in all of those areas, and just recently did something special for a group of high school students. They hosted the Life Skills class from Penn Trafford High School on a tour of their facility so the students could see firsthand the manufacturing of a product from start to finish. Each month is a different job field, and for January the focus career was manufacturing.

Dawn Blank, Transition Coordinator at Penn Trafford High School, reached out to Energy Swing Windows because the students in her Life Skills class will highlight a specific career area each month. The students will talk about jobs, watch videos about it, they will participate in question and answer sessions and role play. Once they complete the lesson, the Life Skill Teachers will plan a field trip to see the focused career in action. Energy Swing Windows in known in the community for manufacturing their own products and it was not far for the students to travel for their field trip, so the teachers knew it would be a good fit.

Ron Strader, Director of Manufacturing at Energy Swing Windows, greeted the students, Dawn Blank, and teachers Mrs. Enick and Mrs. Makin, when they arrived at the facility. He gave them a personal tour from the very beginning of how the windows are made all the way to the finished product. Strader instantly knew he wanted to host the class. He learned about the Life Skills program last year. “After we learned about the program, which is designed to get students into the work field, we ended up hiring a student to work for us part-time last summer. It was rewarding to see how that student flourished over the summer from a high school student and to see the knowledge he gained working in the shop. It was rewarding experience take a student from the Life Skills class and have him work for us. It’s a great program and we are happy to be supportive of it.”
