Don’t make the assumption that just because the product is warranted, the installation is also. In the fine print of the warranty of most window manufacturers is a clause that excludes installation related problems. That is because the manufacturer cannot control the person who will be doing the actual installation, or the quality of their work. Additionally, most warranties will not cover product defects if they determine that the defect was a result of improper installation. Don’t make this mistake. Get it in writing who will be responsible for covering installation-related problems and for how long. Many companies only cover installation-related issues for one to three years, if at all. At the very least, be sure to ask your contractors about this issue.
