STORM DOORS The Learning Center Storm doors have come a long way in both appearance and performance. While you can still buy the low end models that have lightweight components and construction, today’s storm doors have gone upscale from an appearance, operation and performance perspective. First, feel the door, and feel how it opens and closes. A quality door will have more heft and it will close more smoothly. The aluminum framing members have wider and thicker extrusions with heavier wall sections than their cheaper counterparts. Die cast corner gusset will be bigger and stronger, providing corners and moldings that are tight with a more finished look. With higher quality doors you’ll get special hardware, a keyed exterior deadbolt, decorative molding, two door closers instead of one, and special glazing. Many of these better doors have frame members that are filled with foam to provide for quiet, solid operation. Also pay attention to the warranty; the best doors have a limited lifetime warranty.     2. What makes a good quality storm door? < back to list of questions about storm doors
