Stool
Inside horizontal trim member of a window sash or door panel.
Stop
A wood trim member nailed to the window frame to hold, position or separate
window parts. The stop is often moulded into the jamb liners on sliding
windows.
Stud
Vertical wood framing members which form a frame wall. In normal
construction these are eight foot-long 2" x 4"s.
Tempered Glass
Special heat-treated, high-strength safety glass, often called safety glass,
tempered glass does not shatter as easy as non-tempered glass. When it
does break, it crumbles into very small pieces to reduce the threat of injury.
Used in all doors and most windows within 18 inches of the floor.
Tinted Glass
Tinted glass windows are those which are coated with a darker color to
reduce sun glare and solar heat gain. Does not insulate particularly well.
Tinted glass windows are available in several colors and tints.
Stool - True Divided Light
Titanium
An ultra-hard metal with low light absorption and high visible light
transmittance (VLT) properties. Ttitanium low-e coatings improve
transmitted color and reduce emissivity.
Transom
A smaller window above a door or another window. A transom joint is also
the horizontal joining area between two window units which are stacked one
on top of the other.
Triple Pane
Most replacement windows today are double paned windows which means
there are two independent sections of glass kept apart at approximately 5/8
of an inch. When you have a triple pane window, that means there are three
sections of glass. One disadvantage of triple pane glass is that there is a
higher tendency for spacer seals to fail, allowing moisture between the
three panes of glass – this is called 'Fogging'.
True Divided Light
A term that refers to windows in which multiple individual panes of glass or
lights are assembled in the sash using muntins.
