However, don’t assume that just because your existing entry door looks like a standard size that it really is. In older homes, especially in certain parts of the country, door sizes may vary from standard sizes in both height and width. It is also important to be able to determine the right frame width and evaluate the difference between the exterior and the interior openings; don’t assume they are the same. For these and numerous other reasons, it’s a good idea to have an experienced professional take accurate measurements so you get a door that not only fits in the existing opening, but one that fits in without doing a lot of additional work that can distract from the finished product and lessen the door’s aesthetic appeal.
