Unless you are an extremely savvy individual with some significant contracting experience, the answer is no. While some people are more
than capable of undertaking small projects like painting, hanging wallpaper, routine repairs, etc., taking on a large and potentially more
complicated project, such as windows, can be a disaster. What starts out as an attempt to save money can turn into a costly mess. All too
often the job is botched and it costs more to have a reputable professional come in and fix what has been done. According to an article in
the Remodeling News, less than 10% of these do-it-yourself jobs work out - mostly due to lack of experience on the part of the homeowner.
If you want to be assured your project turns out the way you want it, call a reputable professional.
It is also a bad idea to have a friend or associate install windows for you. Many friendships have been destroyed because a friend or relative
offered to do the job for free or at a lower price. Do not take this route unless the person is extremely experienced and does similar type of
work on a daily basis. Generally, there are two big potential problems. First, how can you complain about something you don’t like when the
person did the work for free? Second, what if the person gets hurt while working on your home. Who will pay his medical bills?
