COST OF REPLACEMENT WINDOWS
The Learning Center
Going with the lowest price will save you money, right? No, not necessarily. Everyone tends to look for the lowest price. However, on a low
estimate, you must ask yourself what is being left out or what shortcut is being taken. Check references and qualifications before you're
swept away by a low bid. If three contractors have given you a price, it's hard to overcome the desire to go with the lowest bid. If you first
determine the quality of the contractors, you have the freedom to take the lowest price from the most highly qualified contractor.
Industry studies have determined that the cost of the standard remodeling job can be broken down into three groups: materials, labor and
overhead, and profit. If the homeowner wants to cut costs, it has to come out of one of those areas. One of the most common signs of
trouble ahead is someone offering to do work for much less money than others. Like anything else, you can't get something for nothing. Be
careful of choosing your contractor based upon the lowest price. Customers should always be wary of the very low bid. It might indicate the
contractor is desperate for work and has underbid to get it. This means his business - and your relationship - could be headed for trouble.
An extremely low bid could also indicate a miscalculation by the contractor.
