The Learning Center
Most homeowners mistakenly assume that the company they signed the contract with is responsible for unresolved issues and service.
Typically, there are three different companies involved with your project. The first company is the company from which you purchased
the product. The second is the company who made the window or door. And the third is the subcontractor who installed the product. If
there is a problem, which company is going to address it? In some cases, the three parties will point fingers at one another, leaving the
homeowner frustrated because no one is taking responsibility.
A few companies have installers who are company employees. This narrows the responsibility to two parties: the window manufacturer
and the company who sold/installed the windows or doors. Again, there can be a tendency to point fingers, leaving the homeowners out
in the cold. This is obviously better than a three party arrangement, but be sure to get it in writing that the installers are company
employees and not subcontractors.
There are a limited number of companies who make their own windows and install them with their own employees. The positive thing
about this approach is that all the responsibility is in one place. It doesn’t matter if you have a product or an installation issue, you only
have to deal with a single source. Again, it is important to see this verified in writing since many companies claim to make their own
windows and install them with their own people. One good way to check this out even further is to ask to visit the company’s
manufacturing facility so you can see for yourself where their windows are built.
