WINDOW CONDENSATION The Learning Center Condensation occurs when moisture in the air contacts a cold surface that is below the dew point. The dew point is the temperature to which air must be cooled to condense into water. The condensed water is called dew. Humidity is the amount of water vapor mixed with air. Relative humidity is the percentage of water vapor in the air compared to the maximum amount of water vapor the air can hold at a certain temperature. When the dew point temperature falls below freezing it is often called the frost point, as the water vapor no longer creates dew, but instead creates frost or ice. Warm air can hold much more moisture than cold air. Air at 80o F holds ten times as much moisture as air at 0o F at the same humidity level.  An example of condensation is the moisture that forms on the outside of a glass of ice water on a humid day.
