You hear the term warranty all the time.  You know it’s important to have.  But, do you really know what is covered by the warranty for your home renovations?  Don’t wait until after your job is complete to find out what yourwarranty covers
--ask before you commit.

Read The Fine Print You’ll want to make sure you read the warranty information carefully including any fine print for hidden exclusions.  You don’t want any surprises later.  You also need to find out who is warranting what if your contractor buys products from another company and uses subcontractors.  This will let you know who you need to call if there is a problem, the seller, the manufacturer, or the installer.  It’s much easier at a single source company, such as Energy Swing, where we sell, manufacture, and install our own products using our own employees.

Lifetime? If the warranty you receive says lifetime, how long does that really mean?  In Pennsylvania, a lifetime warranty is legally only seven years!  However, Energy Swing’s warranty is for as long as you live in your house because we know that seven years just isn’t long enough for such large investments.  But what if you sell your home? See if the warranty you receive is transferable and for how long.  What is the procedure for filing a claim?

Look For Fees and Hidden Costs Ask the contractor about any labor charges, servicecharges, trip charges, handling costs, or exclusions.  All fees and prices should be discussed before you sign the contract--no charges should be hidden.

Question 9:
What is really covered in a warranty?
