What about product selection?
Patents Any contractor who designs and manufactures a productwill have a patent registered with United States Patent and Trademark Office. What is unique about the contractor’s design? Have him show you how the windows operate and what features are patented as unique to their company.
Product Choices Also take a look at all the productpossibilities. For example, you may have the chance to choose between a double hung or a slider window for the same opening. Furthermore, you could even choose a whole different look and put in a bay or bow window. Look at all the products the contractor offers and ask him what options you may have. Another situation is if you want a specific type of siding--ask the contractor what kind of products he offers and in what colors. If you want something specific, don’t be afraid to ask! Your contractor may provide the product or knows where he can get it for you.
Products Beyond Your Current Scope A lot of times contractors will either offer a lot ofproducts in one home improvement category or they may be large enough to offer other products other than, say, windows or doors. For example, Energy Swing also offers their customers: siding, gutters, shutters, soffit, fascia, etc. Then within those categories there are more options in brand, color, and style. Be sure to ask your contractor to explain to you all of your options so that you get the look you want. Are you considering any other home improvements?
