FREE VIDEO HELPS CONSUMERS MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE WHEN
Consumer surveys show that each year more and more homeowners are getting short-changed when having work done on their homes. One reason for this is contractors who don’t do the right job because they do inferior work or push low-cost, low quality products that don’t offer the real value that the homeowner needs. The other reason is they don’t spend the time upfront defining needs, understanding alternatives and reviewing options so they are equipped to determine the best value decision for their problems.
All this grief is unnecessary according to window expert Don Darragh. “If homeowners spent as much time planning their window and door projects as they do in preparing for their vacations, they could get the job they want while saving a lot of money and trouble.” Says Darragh
“Unfortunately, they don’t” he continued. “Quite often they don’t know what to do, how to do it or what to watch out for. As a result, they just trust any stranger who comes along and take at face value their promises to fulfill the project of their dreams. They don’t take the time to understand what they need and which company offers them the best overall solution to their needs.
Be cautious about contractors who advertise prices too-good-to-be-true, who use high-pressure sales tactics, drop prices often, or ask you to switch to a poor quality product to cut the price. You are only going to do this job once. Take the time to understand what you need to know before you invest. Go with the contractor who educates as well as communicates, seems trustworthy, gives references and puts everything in writing. Don’t assume that just because it is talked about that it is going to happen.
Warranties are also very important. Be sure you understand them fully. Just because it says Lifetime don’t assume every component of the window and installation is covered forever. And remember, the warranty is only as good as the people who back it. Having one company responsible for the whole process is probably preferable compared to having split responsibilities, which is typical of the replacement window business.
